Hours passed in the town as people went about their business. As the sun was beginning to set, Kim was finishing the last of her baking for the day. After placing her last loaf of bread in the oven, she went about cleaning her station. By the time she had finished cleaning the majority of the mess of flour and dough crumbs, the last of the bread had finished baking. Once she was finished, Kim sat back and sighed, exhausted from her work. Quietly, she mumbled, "Well, another day of work is done. I guess I should check and see if my friends are holding up okay. I imagine Kay hasn't really gotten a break with that rich guest of hers staying with them."
After another moment, she decided to get up and at least wash up a little so she looked more clean.

After she scrubbed her face clean of the flour, she changed into a dark blue dress with an apron, pinning her long brown hair into a bun.
She left the store and locked the door behind her before walking toward the inn.

She made it to the inn and stepped inside. She was surprised to see a young well dressed man sitting in the lobby. He was enjoying the finest tea on the Simm's best China, reading. Kay was standing near him with a tray and looking like she'd rather be anywhere but there.
"Good evening Kay." Kim put on a smile and went towards her friend. "how has your day been?"
"Very well thank you."
Kim looked a little curiously at the guest, who's eyes flashed towards hers. She blushed ever so slightly at the contact but then turned back to her friend. "Did you enjoy the bread?"
"yes, it was delicious." Kay smiled a bit at her, "Mr. Kaiba, this here is my friend Kim, she baked that bread you were fond of."
Kim smiled a bit at hearing the guest was fond of her bread. She stood there with her hands folded in the back. Kay kicked her leg, causing her to look at her in alarm. Kay tilted her head knowingly and made a curtsy gesture. Kim gave her a brief scowl before curtsying towards the guest.
"I see." he said dully, his eyes still glued to his book.

Kim frowned, not pleased with the fact that he didn't seem to pay her any attention. Kay frowned as well, but rather than address her rude guest, she turned back to her friend and said, "So, you're finished working for the day?"
"Yeah, I am," Kim mumbled, deciding to try and ignore Kaiba as well. "I wanted to see how you and Yugi were holding up."

"I am doing quite well," she said in her sweetest voice, but Kim detected the slight hint of resentment in its depths. She offered an apologetic smile to her friend and nodded.
"Indeed. I am sorry to disturb you both, perhaps we may meet for lunch tomorrow?"
"Yes, that sounds very nice. Thank you for visiting, Kim," she said with another smile and curtsy.

Kim smiled in a sarcastic manner and curtsied to her friend.
"Right, well, I will come by tomorrow at noon. You have a good night." she then turned to Seto and forced a curtsy "I hope you enjoy your stay in our town." she said before walking out of the inn.

The moment she got out of the inn, Kim let out a sigh of exhaustion. 'I pity you so much right now, Kay. I will pray for you every night that jerk stays at your inn.'
Quickly, she picked up her pace and went towards the docks. She was fairly certain that Yugi would either be done with work or almost done by now.

She soon arrived at the docks , much to her surprise , yugi was the only one out there. He sat at the edge, looking gloomily over the water.
"Yugi?" Kim approached him , "are you ok?"

Yugi looked towards her. While the exhaustion in his eyes didn't go away, he put on what looked like a forced smile. "Oh, hey, Kim. Yeah, I'm okay. Just tired..."
"Yugi, if something is wrong, you can tell me," Kim said as she sat next to him.

Yugi hesitated but finally said "m-my father was angry with me and....and said I would never live to his expectations."
"Oh yugi ." Kim said sympathetically

"And he's right. I mean, I can barely even catch a couple fish if I'm lucky," Yugi sulked, turning his gaze back to the ocean. "What else can I do with my life, though? I have no skills!"
"Yugi, don't talk like that," Kim said, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. "You have skills; perhaps you just haven't found them yet."

"And I probably never will" he said sadly. "all I know is fishing, and I'm not good at it. and my father probably won't hear a word about me trying something else."
"Why doesn't your father teach you the trade instead of how to catch fish." Kim suggested. "I bet you'd be good at that."
"you think so?" Yugi asked looking at her.
"Of course."
the smaller boy smiled a bit, but still looked a little doubtful. he turned his head away to think about it. but all of a sudden, he saw something from the corner of his eye. "hey, what's that?" he asked turning his head fully. Kim followed his gaze to see a dark silhouette coming towards their harbor.
"It...looks like a ship." Kim said standing up. Yugi stood as well,
"But...ships don't come in this late. It's dark and dangerous for them to do it." he protested.

"Hm, perhaps we should alert one of the men in charge at the docks?" Kim suggested.
"Good idea. Let's go see who's around." Yugi quickly left to find anyone that may be left around the docks.

Kim kept up with him, looking anxiously for someone.
after some walking, and with the ship getting closer, they did find some guards standing near the docks. "Let's talk to them." Kim said anxiously, as she eyed the dark ship sailing closer and closer to the docks.
"Ok."
but before the two could take two steps, a loud "bang" sounded through the night. The two friends immediately ducked down. Kim could feel a vibration beneath her feet and hot wind whipped at her face, blowing her hair violently in the wind. She covered her head for protection, and once she felt the main heat fade away, opened her eyes and lowered her arms, to see that where the guards stood, were gone.
Yugi gasped in shock, as they stared at the charred docks, and the fire that was beginning to spread. "We have to get out of here." Kim stated with a shaky voice. She thought to her bakery, where her father and brothers were!

"Th-Those men..." Yugi's eyes stared wide at where the guards used to be, dreading to think about where they were (or at least what remained of them). "A-And my dad..."
"Yugi, worry about your father later!" Kim said to her friend frantically, not wanting to think of what would happen if he stayed behind. "I think the most important thing is to get out before more fire hits the dock!"
When she saw her friend still frozen in shock, Kim roughly grabbed his arm and began pulling him away shortly before another "bang" was heard.

Instead of ducking, Kim actually turned her head, watching the canon sail and crash into a large building. A loud explosion sounded, setting the nearby buildings on fire. She heard screaming, and soon the streets filled with civilians trying to help those that were losing their homes.
"My bakery is near there." she gasped and began to run towards the damage.

She continued to run, dragging Yugi along with her. After a couple more minutes, he was finally able to snap out of his shocked stupor, and he asked nervously, "Kim, should we really be running towards the burning buildings?"
"Yugi! Really?! My family's back here!" Kim shouted.
"B-But, what if they got out? They probably wouldn't want you running into danger either." The two paused in their talking as Kim helped the two of them get past a chunk of debris in the road. "A-And besides, what about Kay? Her inn is closer to the shore, isn't it? She could be in danger, too!"
Kim paused for a brief second, taking in his words, before saying, "You have a point. Okay, Yugi, you go find Kay then."
"Me?!" He didn't have time to question Kim as she let go of him and continued her way to the bakery.

"No, Kim! come back!" he shouted after her. but she was too far away and he stood there for a long moment, pausing to debate with himself. After a moment, he heard screams, and turned to see some unruly men chasing after the villagers.
"Oh no..." he whispered.
--
Kim continued to run through the town, pushing past people and praying that her family was ok at the very least. She managed to make it to where her bakery stood and was shocked to see it still standing. though the glass had been shattered and it seemed some of her equipment might need to be looked at. "Father!" she called out, hoping that maybe her family was nearby.
Just then, another bang sounded and just a few yards away, another building exploded in front of her. it was big enough to blow her away and fall to the ground.

Kim groaned as her whole body ached from being tossed to the ground. As she rubbed her head, a group of men came through.
"This place looks good. Let's see what loot they have in here."
Kim shook off her pain to see the men entering her bakery, looking for something to steal.

"Wait!" she called dazedly. Later on, she would severely regret trying to stop a group of men from entering her bakery. But this whole commotion wasn't making her think straight. she managed to get to her feet, about to charge at them.
