It was the 1700's in beautiful Scotland. The land was rich and fertile, and everyone was experiencing a generous bounty from the land, even the smallest towns along the coast.
Among these towns was Androssan - a small, fishing port that was tucked away nicely on the west coast. The town mostly consisted of older families, most of the young men and women off to live in the big cities to try and make it big. However, the town made a perfect connection between some of the bigger cities in the country, so there was never a shortage of people visiting the town.
"Kim!" The brunette looked up from her counter, a stripe of flour painting her cheek and her long hair tied back with a white cloth.
"Good morning, Ka,y" she greeted with a smile as she set a tray of rolls on the counter. "What brings you here?"
"Father sent me to ask for your finest bread!" the blonde sighed, her green eyes half lidded and indicating her irritation. Kim quirked a brow in confusion.
"For what?"
"Apparently we have some wealthy nobleman gracing our inn with his presence," Kay sighed dramatically. "So, as a result, we have to wait on him hand and foot until he leaves for Glasgow tomorrow morning."
"Ahhh, I see. I'll bake a fresh batch of bread, then, and bring it by as soon as it's ready."
"I appreciate that," Kay said with a weak smile

Kim smiled a bit slyly. "So what kind of gentleman is he?" She asked a little excited, it was so rare to have visitors.
"Hmph, I don't care."
"Oh come on Kay, just think, if you impress him enough he can sweep away into a life of glamour and luxury." She teased.

"Right, like I really need a life surrounded by pompous egotists that worry more about the state of their shoes than the struggle of us common folk. I'd take my current life any day," Kay replied. "Besides, if I wanted a life of luxury, I'd make it myself."
Kim chuckled. "True, you could probably do it, too." After getting back to her work, she asked, "Have you heard anything from Yugi lately?"

"Not much. But last time we spoke, he seemed to be struggling with picking up on his father's fishing business. Apparently, he hesitates too much when he gets a fish on the line and he tends to lose it before he can reel it in."
"Oh, that's a shame..." Kim sighed, thinking of the young, violet eyed boy they'd grown up with. Yugi was a gentle spirit, and it wasn't surprising he was struggling

"yeah. he's been pretty stressed out." Kay said sympathetically.
"Maybe I'll go visit him with some fresh bread, see how he's doing and cheer him up slightly." Kim said. Kay smiled at her,
"I'm sure he'd like that."

"Well, for now, I guess I'll just focus on your bread," Kim said as she finished the last bit of her kneading of the dough. "We wouldn't want your special guest to become grouchy."

Kay rolled her eyes "Thanks Kim, I suppose I'll see you in a bit."
Kim nodded "yes, see you in a little bit."

Kay left to go back to the inn while Kim continued to work on baking her bread. After roughly an hour, she had finished her loaves of bread and set off to go see Kay before seeing Yugi.

She arrived to the inn her friends familiy owned and saw that it was quite busy. Kay's mother dusted furiously at every object, and Kay's father kept rearranging the decor. Kim cleared her throat, and Kay's mother turned before looking alarmed.
"Kim honey! Don't step into the lounge, you've got quite a bit of flour on you."
"My apologies. I came as fast as I could to deliver you the best, hot, fresh bread." Kim said smiling brightly and exaggerating her voice.
"Oh Kim, way to make it dramatic." Kay sighed as she approached her friend to take the armful of bread. "Thank you for making it so quickly."
"Ah, my pleasure. Father says maybe we'll drop by for supper and we'll bring the ale."
"Your family's hilarious." Kay said with a half lidded look, to which Kim just grinned slyly. Kim's father had a tendency to joke at the worst of times, and was a bit eccentric. Whereas Kim and her brothers were quite sarcastic and took every opportunity to make people's lives harder with their sense of humor. Combine the entire family and it typically never ended well.
"Well, I'm going to go check on Yugi, and make sure he's not suffering panic attacks for capturing a fish." Kim shook her head. "He can eat it, but he can't catch it. what a shame."
"Yeah, why don't you go toughen him up and not stress my parents out." Kay said

"Okay, I get the message, Kay. Good luck."
"Thanks, I'll need it," Kay responded with a sigh. With that, Kim quickly left the inn and made her way to the fishing docks.

Kay returned to the kitchen and handed the loaves of bread to the kitchen cook, who was scowling quite dramatically.
"Long day, Honda?"
"You don't know the half of it!" the olive-skinned chef grumbled, taking the bread and beginning to prepare a large platter laden with sausage, eggs, fresh fruit, and other delicious breakfast foods. "That damned noble has me creating a damn feast here for just him! It's people like him that'd eat an apple in front of a starving man and then grind the remaining bits under their foot for a cheap laugh."
"Such a passionate tone, Honda," Kay laughed and he shrugged.
"Would you kindly present this to his majesty?" he asked with a half-lidded look. "I'm afraid my speech isn't near proper enough."
"Very well," she sighed with a teasing smile before taking the large tray and carefully maneuvering out of the kitchen to the stairs. Luckily, Kay was pretty proficient at carrying heavy items up stairs without spilling or breaking anything, and she brought the food to the room on the top floor, near the windows overlooking the sea. She carefully knocked with her foot. "Mr. Kaiba, I have brought the breakfast spread you requested."
The door opened after a moment and she met the icy blue eyes of her guest with a painted smile.
He opened the door completely and made a gesture with his head for her to enter, so she did so and placed the tray on the designated table with a chair.
"Will there be anything else, sir?" she asked after pouring his tea and adding a cube of sugar and a spot of milk. He took the china without a word and sipped it carefully before offering a small nod.
"No, that will be all." She left him alone and shut the door, rolling her eyes.
"Nobles," she sighed under her breath.

Meanwhile, Kim arrived to the docs where the numerous fishermen in the town were hauling large nets filled to the brim with fish, clams, crabs, and shrimp. She kept her eyes peeled for the familiar, spiky head of hair on the wooden docs and finally spotted the young man further along, struggling to pull a net from the water.
"Yugi!" she called with a wave.

Yugi turned to see her and smiled. Without thinking, one of his hands let go of the net to wave at her as he called out, "Oh, hi, Kim."
At feeling the sudden weight of the net drooping, Yugi gasped and turned back to the net, trying to regain his grip. Kim chuckled to herself before approaching him. "Need a little help there?"

"N-no, I got it!" he grunted. Kim rolled her eyes and bent down, grabbing the net and helping him hoist the bundle of fish he had caught
"Thanks..." Yugi said quietly.
"you're welcome,"
"So, what brings you to the docs?"
"I baked some bread for Kay's guest, and thought maybe you could use a treat too. Since you've been working so hard."

"Oh, thanks, Kim," Yugi said with a tiny smile. "I'll have to see if I'm getting a break soon."

"Looks like you could use it too." Kim said sympathetically "are you doing alright ?"
"Yeah , it's just tough work is all."
"I know"

Yugi sighed. Wanting to change the subject, he asked, "So, how about you, Kim? Are sales at your bakery going alright?"

"Yeah. Same old customers each day with an occasional stranger passing through. Nothing too exciting." Yugi nodded
"And you said there's a nobleman staying at the inn?"
"Yes, Kay's parents are beside themselves trying to make everything perfect!"

Yugi smiled a little bit, "I suppose I should be grateful my business doesn't involve pleasing people."
Kim gave him a strange look "Yugi...you catch fish. It's got to be a little bit pleasing..."
"But not to the extent of bending over backwards to make sure everything is pristine and perfect." Yugi protested.

"Well... I suppose you have a point," Kim said with a shrug, admittedly feeling sorry for Kay. "But still, you help feed people when you're catching fish. I think that's a pretty big deal at least."
"Yeah..."

"Yugi! Get back to work !" A man hollared, yugi jumped looking a bit nervous.
"I guess I better get going," kim said
"Thanks for the bread" yugi put it in his pockets.
"Sure, good luck ,"
With that, kim went back to her bakery and yugi got back to work
