Aaralyn sighed, "Alright." she agreed a little reluctantly,
"come and have a bite." Kou encouraged. Aaralyn gave him a tight smile and had a quick bowl of stew, before going to a small stream nearby to do a little bit of meditating before they moved out.
This time, she decided to seek out her fathers energy and try to pin where he could be.
Moments later, she felt it, taking a shallowed breath, she proceeded forth towards it, seeing him in his fortress. Her father stood in her old room, at the top of a tower. He rummaged through her things, his ghostly white hands trailing along the possessions she left behind. She could see anger, disappointment, and hurt reflecting in his red eyes.
Aaralyn stood for a moment, then saw Bakura open up a book, much to her horror, it was her old journal. "I can feel your presence my dear." Bakura said quietly, but to Aaralyn, it was as if he screamed. Wincing she stood stock still. She wasn't with him! IT was just them sharing their energy bond. "what has it been? Three months?" he refused to turn, still scanning the contents of her journal. "Don't think you're so clever, I know you better than anyone else. You have a terrible weakness, and I know what it is," the corners of his mouth tilted upwards and from his robes, he produced a flask. Aaralyn gasped in horror. It was a potion he used to force her to drink, and it caused a horrible addiction she had fought for years to overcome.
"I'll come deliver it to you, as a loving father should."
Aaralyn opened her eyes, and realized she was shaking violently. After seeing her old potion, it brought back unwanted cravings and the feeling of despair. she so desperately wanted that sweet tonic, that tasted of blood and amped up her dark powers. The only downside was that it dulled her mind, and she was subject to whatever Bakura desired.
"Aaralyn...we're moving out." Aelita said.

"Oh, r-right," Aaralyn called out before clearing her throat and scowling. She didn't want to sound on edge, and yet her unspoken fear still managed to make her stammer a little.
Aelita watched her as they all re-packed their things to get moving, and once they were done, she asked, "Everything alright?"
Aaralyn took a deep breath, pushing her memories into the back of her mind, and said, "Yes, I'm fine."

"Are you sure?"
"yes of course." Aaralyn insisted. "We should head out. We need to get a good start."

Aelita gave her a look of suspicion but remained quiet; after all, reaching their destination as quickly as possible was the more important task right now. Besides, she would probably have more opportunities to question Aaralyn. So, without a word, the group continued on their way, trekking across the barren landscape in silence.

Night time fell and they hurriedly found a safe spot to camp for the night. Aelita volunteered for first watch with another soldier.
As Aaralyn fell asleep, she couldn't help the troubles that stirred in her. "You can always sense him," she reassured herself and sighed softly. deciding to get some sleep.
--
Aelita was sitting at the entrance of the cave, watching with alert eyes for any signs of movement.
however, since she was occupied with that, she didn't notice the dark shadow slipping through. it played with the moons shadows and easily slipped into the dark cave. the shadow quickly and efficiently made its way through the sleeping soldiers, spotting messy white hair easily.
Bakura smirked as he took in his daughters sleeping state and brought his hand to her cheek. "you can't escape from me, and I'll make it so you never will." he promised darkly and slipped a liquid into her drinking pouch. "sweet dreams my dear." the older man placed a mocking kiss on her forehead. Aelita turned abruptly, thinking she had heard something, but seeing nothing in the cave or surrounding them, she assumed it was nothing.

Two days passed, and the group finally made it to their destination. Kou excitedly looked through the town until he spotted his parents home. He happily approached the door and knocked before entering, Aelita and Aaralyn following silently. "Mom? Dad?" He called.
"Kou?" they heard a man's voice say softly, and Kou went towards the dining room, where he saw his father sitting down at the table. His father was a bit on the short side, his violet eyes worn down by lack of sleep and his hair stuck up in spikes with blonde bangs hanging in his face.
"Hi dad..." he smiled a bit and approached the older man before wrapping his arms around his shoulders. "I've missed you."
"Be honest, you miss your mother more than me." Yugi smiled up at him. "She'll be home in a few minutes." his eyes looked up and he saw Aelita and Aaralyn standing there a little quietly. "Aelita? Wow, you've really grown up."
"Thank you," Aelita smiled politely. She knew Yugi was still hurting over her parents deaths. Aaralyn remained quiet as she took in Yugi's appearance. She had never met him, but she knew her father greatly disliked him.
"Yugi. I'm home." a soft voice called out, Kou turned around and saw his mother walking into the kitchen. Upon seeing her son, Kristen gasped in delight.
"Hi mom." Kou embraced her "I'm so happy to see you!"

"Kou, I'v emissed you so much!" Kristen said, embracing him tightly. She was about Yugi's height with peach skin and chocolate brown hair tied in a low bun with an occasional strand of silver. Her eyes were blue, but showed signs of weariness.
"It's good to see you both well," Aelita said kindly.
"You too, Aelita," Kristen said, pulling back from Kou before moving to embrace her.
"To what do we owe this pleasure?" Yugi asked with a smile.

"Well, I wish we could say we were just coming for a friendly visit, but we have some questions to ask you," Aelita said once Kristen pulled away from her.
"Oh, well, I'm sure we can help. What would you like to know?"
Aelita gestured to Kou, feeling that he should be the one to ask his parents what they wanted to know. Sighing he said, "Well, you guys know we're looking for a way to change this world, right?" After seeing a nod, he continued, "Well, we think we might know how to do it. We're trying to a find a way to travel to the past, and we believe... We believe the death of Aaralyn's mother may have played a factor in causing this future."
Yugi and Kristen gasped at the mention, with Kristen tearing up a little. "Kim..."
"So, you knew my mother?" Aaralyn asked, finally speaking up.
"Oh, yes. She was a good friend of ours," Yugi explained. He looked down sadly. "It's been so long since she died..."
Aelita, taking control of the situation, said, "We're sorry for bringing back memories, but if you could tell us what had led up to her death, we might be able to find a point to go back in time to so we can change the future and maybe even prevent her death."

Kristen and Yugi looked at one another, Yugi hesitated before saying slowly "I-if you do that...I'm afraid Aaralyn will cease to exist."
"We've accepted that we all may cease to exist-" Aelita started but Yugi interrupted her.
"No I mean...only Aaralyn will. Kristen and I have been in love since...well...since we were young children. Aelita...your parents were very much in love with one another since they were young as well. We all had no doubts that they would eventually get together, despite their...difficulties. But if you attempt to prevent Kim's death...then she would never have met Bakura."
"What?" Aaralyn asked her eyes widening. Yugi looked at her for a long moment, studying the young girl.
"I hate to say this, but...Kim...was hunted for treachery, which was falling in love with Bakura." he shook his head. "Bakura never exactly was a good person in the past. Kim was on our side, we don't know exactly what had happened, but somehow she must've had a run in with Bakura. She was very secretive for the last year she was alive. We didn't even know she was pregnant. Until Aaralyn was born and she was forced to admit who the father was."
Aaralyn was quiet. letting this all sink in.

As she thought about it, Kou asked, "So, there's no way to change the past without removing her from the timeline?"
"Well, the chances won't be in her favor..."
A long silence filled the air before Aelita said, "Well, even so, we have to try. I can't stand any of us living in this ruined future. If there's something we can do to change this, even if it takes us out of the timeline, we can at least prevent the rest of the world from suffering."

Kristen smiled sadly. "That is a noble goal aelita, but altering time is a big risk. "
"its one we are willing to take"
Aaralyn shot aelita a small scowl before leaving the room to be alone. Kristen sighed sadly as she watched the younger girl leave

"Well, you certainly share your mother and father's drive to get things done," Yugi said to Aelita, also taking note of Aaralyn's actions. "Just make sure not to lose sight of the things that matter."
"Right, I understand," Aelita said with a nod.
Sensing how uncomfortable the air around them became after Aaralyn's departure, Kou decided he wanted to change the subject and asked, "So, Mother, Father, would either of you have any idea of a place that would allow us to go back in time?"

Yugi and Kristen looked at one another, "Perhaps." Kristen said softly, "there's an abandoned court yard where Kim would..." she hesitated "where Kaiba's magicians would do rituals." she felt tears sting at her eyes again as she thought of her old friend in the court yard performing magic for Kaiba when he had been alive. With everything that had happened, she was lucky to have Yugi alive. Crippled and unable to take care of himself, but alive nonetheless. She didn't know about Yugi, but she had pushed aside the memories of her youth to the back of her mind. It was so painful to think about the few years that had escalated quite quickly. And with Seto and Kay's death, the kingdom had plummeted dramatically and been more subject to Bakura's growing darkness.
Aelita saw the look in Kristen's eyes and nodded "I think I...remember." she said quietly, "We'll go tomorrow morning."
