Aaralyn frowned at this, but before any sort of fight could break out, Kou said, "Okay, so, if your mother's death led to the dark lord's madness, we'll have to travel back to before that point then?"
"Exactly."
"How far back should we go then? We don't know what could've led to her death, after all. If it was caused by something that could be changed days, weeks, or even months before it could happen, we'll need to know."

Aaralyn went quiet again, she didn't exactly know how her mother died, or the events that led up to it. She only knew that it was the final breaking point for her father.
Kou sighed, "That's why I want to see my parents. They might have a clue."
"Again Kou, we can't risk you going." Aelita said and put her hand on his arm. "We need your special skill set."
Aaralyn looked back down to the table where their plans were at and ran her fingers through her long hair. "Maybe, I can go back to my father,"she suggested.
"that's not worth it." Kou exclaimed. "won't he kill you?"

"Not necessarily..."
"But Aaralyn, it's too risky! If he kills you, then we'll have no chance to change the past!" Kou nodded.
"We'd be better off visiting my parents."

Aaralyn thought a little longer about this, knowing that making the wrong decision could lead to some dire consequences down the line. With reluctance, she realized that after her acts of betrayal to her father, he probably wouldn't be willing to welcome her back and keep her alive. Sighing, she said, "Very well then."
"Great, I'll go prepare a team to go out then," Aelita said, taking charge of the situation. As she left to do as she said, Kou sighed heavily, feeling like she wouldn't let him join this team, despite the fact that they were going to see his own parents. If he wasn't going to be allowed to go, he would most likely find a way to go speak with them anyways.

he frowned a bit thoughtfully. It had been years since he last saw both his parents. His father encouraged Kou to do whatever he felt was right. He had teamed up with Aelita and the two had gone off to help with the resistance to the Dark Sorcerer's power. Not long after, Aaralyn had shown up. The two distrusted her, but knew she was a powerful ally. As she was incredibly skilled in some magic neither of them could ever hope to tap into. Not to mention, understood the dark sorcerer well.
Kou was the first to warm up to her, and he had to admit, he found her incredible in various ways. She could easily take down some forces that had the potential to knock out a lot of their troops. But she lived in paranoia that one day her father would come for her, and he could tell she feared him greatly.
But he had to admit, he was homesick. He missed his mother, and he wanted to see his father badly. Kou decided he would play along to Aelita's wishes, but he had to find an opportunity to get himself home.
the younger boy turned to the girl still sitting in her spot. She had a look on her face as she stared down at the table. "Aaralyn, what are you thinking?" he asked gently.
"Nothing." she answered.
"I know you are thinking of something." he encouraged, hoping she would open up.
"It really is nothing, I suppose I'm just reflecting on my father is all." she mumbled and began to play with the sleeves of her robe.

Kou held back a sigh; he could tell she was worried. Honestly, he didn't know if he could offer her any words to ease her mind. After a while, he decided to say, "When we change the past, I certainly hope the three of us will still be friends... Well, if we don't cease to exist, that is."
Aaralyn looked back at Kou, seeing his attempts to lighten the mood. She rested her arms on the table and said, "Yeah, I'm sure we will..."
~~~
Several hours passed before the bleak landscapes became shrouded in the added darkness that nighttime brought. True to her word, Aelita had formed a team to go meet with Kou's parents, and they all prepared themselves to travel the moment daytime arrived.
Kou watched them prep their weapons and supplies, longing to join them. Aaralyn sat in silence, meditating.
It was the one thing that lessened the dark voices in her head and made her feel she really had control. Her father's influence had made her dark powers a constant battle. The darkness in her thirst ed for blood, but the light undoubtedly left by her mother kept it at bay.
"Aaralyn?" She opened her eyes owly and saw Kou looking at her in concern.
She tried to hold in her sigh of annoyance at Kou. Meditation helped her keep sane and fight against the voices. And she severely disliked it when she was interrupted. Unfortunately, her father knew that, and he soon learned that she was trying to tame her own mind. he would punish her for even trying, wishing for her to go mad just as he had.
"yes?" she managed to say in a calm voice. She saw a flicker of fear cross Kou's violet eyes, before he took a deep breath. She wondered what he saw when she was pulled away from her meditation. It must not be good if he was reacting in fear or apprehension. "Yes Kou, what is it?"
"you've been sitting quietly for hours, and even refused dinner. I just want to be sure you're saving up all your energy for when we go back in time."
Anger and annoyance for Kou and his stupid reasons tugged at Aarlayn, but she was determined to not unleash her anger towards him. Aelita would probably come rushing in and they would fight. She was too overprotective of the boy.
"This is the best way, food doesn't do anything for me energy wise. I need to be able to meditate." she said, her teeth starting to clench as the darker voices clawed in her mind.
"O-Oh, I see..." Kou trailed off and backed away slightly. While he knew Aaralyn was a good person, it still unnerved him to feel the dark energies from her lineage linger around her.
Fortunately for the two of them, Aelita came up to them at this point and said, "Well, it looks as though our team is packed and ready to leave first thing in the morning. Would one of you guys like to help me find someone to stand guard?"
"Sure." Kou straightened up, but before leaving, he asked, "Aelita, why don't you have your group traveling there now?"
"Kou, the Dark Sorcerer's forces are more powerful during the night; I'd rather us not risk the lives of our men."
"Oh, okay..." With that exchange done, Kou left to find a guard while his mind filled with several different thoughts.
Aelita cast a glance at Aaralyn after she breathed a sigh of relief and returned to meditating. Admittedly, Aaralyn meditating was one of the few moments she did trust she wasn't like her father. Within a few short moments, she could sense the dark energy around her subsiding.
She left her to continue, focusing on the mission instead. Time was running short and she could feel a shift in the darkness of the land. Bakura was growing more powerful and, if they did not hurry, he would snuff them out and the world would be doomed to this darkness forever...
She had thoughts of maybe getting Aaralyn to use her dark powers. but she feared that against her father, he'd kill her quickly and then they would all be left vulnerable. Aaralyn was a powerful ally and she didn't want to take any unnecessary risks.
Whilst Aaralyn was meditating, she found herself reaching forward an uncertain light in her mind. comforted by a gentle soothing voice.
but, as soon as she seemed to be getting closer, her father's voice pierced through the other voices. Making Aaralyn jump in shock, "no." she whispered.
"Aaralyn?"
She looked up at Aelita who was giving her a look mixed with concern and suspicion. Aaralyn couldn't find herself annoyed this time because she was still a little surprised by her sudden shock. Aelita asked her, "Did you sense something?"
"No...no...I just...it was a bad memory is all," she sighed. "Sometimes, when I meditate...I get lost in memories that snap me back. Almost like a nightmare." Aelita nodded slowly.
"Do you need anything?"
"I'll be fine," she sighed, standing up slowly. "I'll be fine."
Aelita nodded again, "What memory was it?" she asked, feeling a bit curious. Aaralyn paused and then hesitated before saying
"I used to get locked up in the dungeon if I misbehaved." she mumbled. "Well, I'm going to grab something to eat."
Aelita watched Aaralyn go off before sighing. Sometimes, she wasn't really sure how to feel about her. She felt like she had good reason to pity her at times, but her previous involvement with her father as well as her habit of distancing herself from others made it hard for Aelita to put all of her trust in her.
'Still, it's not like we have much choice,' Aelita thought to herself. 'We need to trust the few allies we have in these dark times, and she's a very important asset to this fight.'
Aelita decided to go get some rest, knowing that she and her team had to move out the next morning.
The night eventually passed and the day finally dawned.
Aelita and her team finished preparing for their journey before they finally took off down the ruined road.
Aaralyn watched them go for a little bit and then sighed before retreating inside. She debated about meditating again, but she was still shaken up at hearing her father in her head. "Great, I thought maybe I would be a little safer." she said to herself bitterly.
After wandering the hide out and making sure their defenses were safe, she decided to go find Kou. No doubt the kid was still sulking and milling about bitterly.
Though Aaralyn could understand, he wanted to see his parents.
'Still, Aelita has a point. He's one of the few clerics in this rebellion. Without healers, we won't get far.' Soon enough, she reached the boy's room. As she opened the door, Aaralyn opened her mouth to speak. However, she paused as she was greeted with an empty room. She quietly frowned to herself, wondering where Kou would be if he wasn't in his room.
She left to check the mess hall, hoping he had gone to sneak some of the few confections they had in their food supply.
She entered the tent and saw a few stray soldiers eating late meals, but no sign of kou.
She frowned some more and took a deep breath. Maybe she could sense his energy. Her father had trained her to be able to sense human presence in order to track their enemy down.
Leaving the tent, she found a secluded spot and sat down, closing her eyes and concentrating on Kou's energy.
After several moments her eyes opened and she scowled.
"he left didn't he?" she grumbled to herself and stood up.
